The famous city Naju for its natural dyeing in Korea!! Naju City, as a central place of Korean ancient cultures, is the one where fabrics, silk, and natural dyeing culture have developed from antiquity.
In Naju City, which formed on the plain of the Yeongsangang riverside, fabrics, and natural dyeing culture have developed from antiquity thanks to its plenty of water, fertile soil, and warm climatic environment along with the formation of a city.
The traditional dyeing in Naju serves to transmission & development of traditional indigo blue dyeing technique led by Yoon, Byung-yun and Jeong, Kwan-chae who are the national important intangible cultural property No. 115 Yeomsaekjang artisans. The Natural Dyeing Cultural Center in Naju City located at the Yeongsangan riverside is playing an innovative role in natural dyeing distribution, and the industrialization sector, such as natural dyeing work exhibition, experience, education, R&D, and industrialization support, etc.

Introduction of Foundation

The Naju-si Natural Dyeing Cultural Foundation(a juridical foundation)was established as ‘a juridical foundation’ by civil law in April, 2006, and it has made efforts for natural dyeing development of Korea and Naju with a primary goal of preservation, succession, distribution, industrialization and R&D of traditional cultures, and management of the Natural Dyeing Cultural Center.
The management bureau of the Naju Natural Dyeing Cultural Foundation(a juridical foundation) is in the Naju Natural Dyeing Cultural Center located at Hoejin-ri, Dasi-myeon, Naju-si, Jeonnam, and its fundamental property is raised and operated through Naju City’s donations and other amounts of revenue.

Foundation Project

  • Management of the Naju Natural Dyeing Cultural Center
  • Preservation, inheritance and distribution of natural dyeing traditions
  • Promotion of the natural dyeing industry, work creation activity and its distribution
  • Collection, management, distribution, and survey & research of materials related to natural dyeing
  • The project entrusted by the Naju Mayor for natural dyeing promotion
  • Other projects necessary for the foundation’s goal achievement

  • Management of the Natural Dyeing Museum(Jeonnam-No.11, 1st Class Specialized Museum)
  • Jeollanamdo-approved organization as a teacher’s job training in special fields(Authorized by the Jeollanam-do Office of Education)
  • Implementing agency for private certificate for natural dyeing instructor(grade 1,2 &3)& issuing agency(Korea Research & Institute for Vocational Education & Training: No. 2009-0116)
  • Management of the natural dyeing experience center and implementation of education
  • Production and distribution of natural dyeing products(Brand cultivation of natural dyeing brand ‘Najuson’ and product distribution)
  • Natural dyeing& natural colors manpower training agency(supported by the Ministry of Labor and Ministry of Knowledge & Economy)
  • R&D of natural dyeing(fulfillment of natural dyeing research lab & manpower)/li>
  • Discovery, exhibition & distribution of natural dyeing traditional cultures
